Which controllers do you really need for the Nintendo Wii?
64The Nintendo Wii has ton of different kinds of controllers you can get. Some just attach on to the main controller. This guide will help you choose which the ones to you buy. If your new to the Wii, this should help you.
The Wiimote
This is the main controller for the Nintendo Wii. One comes with the Wii when you buy it, and you can buy others separately for multilayer modes. The first Wii came out with the basic Wiimote. It allows you to play most of their games with one simple controller.
The Wii Motion Plus
This is an attachment that plugs into the back of the Wiimote. It has more accurate sensors to improve your game play. This isn't required for most games so you do not need to go rush out to buy them. Chances are if your getting a new Wii, you will just have the controller below.
The Wiimote Plus
This is the controller you will most likely have if your new to the Wii. It combines the Wiimote and Wii Motion Plus in one controller. The Wii didn't have this originally which is why they had the other attachment above. This will probably be the Wiimote that you will use for most games. If you need additional controllers, this would be the one to get. This will look the exact same as the original controller.
The nunchuck
This is the other controller that will come with your Wii. I simply connect to the back of the Wiimote. If you like that control scheme then I suggest getting more. You don't necessarily need 4, but some games are easier to play with the nunchuck.
The Classic Controller
This controller was made originally for playing older games downloaded off the Nintendo Channel. It's a fun controller, but it is one you really don't need to buy. If you would like a classic controller, I would suggest the newer one below.
The Classic Controller Pro
This is one of the best additional controllers you can buy for the Wii. It is like the Classic Controller except it is easier to hold. It is great for many different games. This would be a good controller to get to play Monster Hunter Tri, GoldenEye 007 and a few more. It even comes in gold!
Colors
Please note that the controllers above come in different colors. I suggest getting the same color as your Wii, but it is really up to you. Be sure to pick out the color that you'd like.
The Fighting Stick
This is a controller you really don't need. It could be fun to have for old times sake. It's a little more complicated to use than the controllers you may be used too. There aren't that may games for it either. It could be a fun one to get though.
The Wii Dance Mat
The Wii Dance Mat is a controller used for dance games. It lays on the floor and allows you to step on the different arrows and A and B buttons. This controller is good for a few dance games. Not all dance games use this mat while some use the Wiimote and nunchuck.
The Wii Balence Board
This controller was first released with Wii Fit. It is now used for a few different exercise games and even a skiing game. This controller is needed to play those games. It is expense, but it could be a good investment.
Conclusion
As you can see, the controller you need will depend on the game you want to play. You don't need to buy 4 of each controller right away. Once you find what your favorite games are, get the right controller for it. Some people also like different controllers for different games. They might just prefer using an old Gamecube controller for some of them. That is fine, just don't buy everything right away. See what is fun and then find what you need.

An interesting hub, but I would say most of this stuff is common sense. it only depends on what games you want or have.
